First of all, Sareny wanted me to write a disclaimer here that there are spoilers regarding the characters at Disneyland, so if you don't already know and don't want to be disappointed, don't read on. :)
Sareny has asked me before if the princesses at Disneyland are real, and I have always tried to be a little vague and say I wasn't sure. Today she asked me if they die, and I told her no. This is where it got tricky--she asked me if Jesus made the princesses. Now really, when she brings Jesus into it, how can I tell her a lie? So I told her that no, a man named Walt Disney made them. Now she wanted to know how he made people, and I said he created the idea and then hired people.
"What! You mean they just wear costumes? They're not even real princesses?"
She was shocked. It is the end of innocence for her. She was very upset and said she never wants to see any of the characters at Disneyland again. Then she asked, "What about Mickey Mouse? Is he real? Or Goofy, I suppose he's just a person in a costume too?"
I asked her if we could just pretend they were real, but she said no, and she never wants to go to Ariel's Grotto again. She also said if I make her get a picture with them, she will tell them, "You're not even real! You're just wearing a costume!" I'm sure they will be as shocked by this revelation as she was.
I actually feel pretty terrible about this...honestly I never knew it would be such a huge blow. I am sad that a little bit of the magic is gone for her forever.

well i still pretend they are real and that is enough for me. i mean you saw me at ariel's grotto. poor sareny... it must very hard.
Poor Sareny! And after all the excitement of Ariel's Grotto and meeting all the princesses! I just always assumed that little girls already knew that the princesses were just pretend. How sad that she feels so tricked. But like Lexi said, it is still lots of fun to pretend that they're real and then meet them. I just feel so sad for Sareny. It's just kinda hard.
That is pretty sad. Hopefully she'll get over it by next time...
How sad! A few years ago Jared decided that we should tell Makenna that Santa Claus was not real. We sat down with her one evening and did just that. It was horrible! She cried and cried and was very upset that we had ruined it all for her. Needless to say, Matthew will be learning the sad truth on his own...
Well we all know that I let the Santa thing go on for a long time, so I am very sad that Sareny has had her little princess bubble burst at her tender age. Hopefully she'll follow her Tia Lexi's example and just get excited anyway! I can just see her at Dis trying to rip mickey's fake head off and expose him for the fraud he really is.........We may have to find a new happy place.
Well... kinda sad, but she IS five and about to start school, so yeah. Just one of those things! Darn kids grow up when we're not looking.
Just don't go dropping the Santa Claus bomb yet. :D
What?!? They're not real! What a sham!!
That is just about the saddest thing I've heard all day! Poor Sareny. Now you have to convince her that she's lucky that she gets to be in on the gig and help the littler kids still believe.
