Swimming Lessons

The kids are two weeks into swimming lessons for the summer, and it is going great!

Finley is in the parent/child class with me, and she loves it. Mostly she loves to climb on the stairs and play in the gutter as opposed to doing the skills the lifeguard is trying to teach, but at least she is having fun.

She got brave and put her face in the water. Usually when the lifeguard comes over to check her skills and asks her to try something Finley gets a very grouchy look on her face and says, "uh-uh. Mommy!"

Isaac was in a level one class for the first session, and today he just started in level two.

His level one class made the kids sit on the edge of the pool while they wait for their turn. Not very fun, in my opinion, but he seemed to enjoy it and did great, although I think he had a lot more fun in the level two class today.

Sareny is in level three, where she is doing great. She loves learning how to dive and has even swam the whole length of the pool. She's a bit smaller than most of the kids in the class.

Ready to practice some new kicks and breathing techniques with a kickboard held out in front of her.
I'm so glad they are all enjoying swimming lessons this summer and doing so well.

Learning to Swim

I'm a little behind on posting, so these pictures are from a few weeks ago when we were still in swimming lessons. Keith was able to come with us one time, and the kids loved it!
Finley actually seemed a lot happier when Keith had her in the pool. Could it be he's more fun?

Isaac's progress was the most remarkable this year. He started out the summer sitting on the side of the pool crying, refusing to get in. And this is how he ended the year.

Doing headbobs by himself.

It was nice to see him gain confidence and have fun. He even jumped off the diving board all by himself by the end of the summer!

Sareny is really becoming a good swimmer. She can swim across the width of the pool on her own. And I realize her suit looks like a bikini in the below picture, but it is actually a tankini that floated up...oops.

We had so much fun at swimming lessons this year!

Swimming Lessons

It's over 100 degrees on a daily basis, which means summer is definitely here. And for three lucky kids in our house, that means swimming lessons!

This year I'm doing the baby class with Finley, Isaac is in level B and Sareny is in level 1 (I accidentally registered her for the wrong level, she should be in level 2.)
Last year, being hugely pregnant with Finley and ready to go into labor at any moment, I enrolled Isaac in a level 1 class, which he hated. He was not quite two years old and spent six and a half weeks holding on to the side of the pool crying nonstop with me sitting right at the edge of the pool doing what I could to comfort him. (The last week and a half he laughed and giggled and loved every minute.) It was not easy for either of us.
Last weekend, we swam at our friend's house. Isaac was completely terrified and clung tightly to me. He also insisted on wearing his, "boobies," which is apparently what he thinks floaties are called. It's kind of silly. Needless to say, I was a little concerned about him. He spent most of Monday and Tuesday's lessons sitting at the edge of the pool, and the couple times he got in, he cried and struggled to get out. Wednesday, I sat at the edge with him for a few minutes and kept him in the water. When I went back to my lesson, he stayed in with only a little bit of crying. Thursday and Friday he stayed in the pool the whole time with almost no crying. Yay Isaac!
Sareny wasn't very excited for lessons to start--I think she had forgotten that swimming lessons are fun! I asked her to tell me about her lessons, and she said "They're fun! I do superman arms and put my head in and rush to the wall."

Swimming Lessons

Sareny and Isaac are in swimming lessons this summer, and today was the third day of class. Because I am going to have a baby sometime in the next few weeks, I had to put Isaac, who is not quite 2, into a level 1 class with his sister, who is 4. Sounds crazy, and I have been worried about him for the past month. He is not very happy in there, but each day gets a little better, and I am just glad the lifeguard is letting him stay in. I sit right on the side under an umbrella to help calm him down, keep him in the pool, and keep him from drowning when the lifeguard is busy with the other kids.
Sareny loves her lessons and has a lot of fun since the class is full of her friends. The picture above is with one of her best friends that was in her preschool class. She likes to do bobs at the side, and is very excited because when she goes under, her feet can touch the bottom. Her life goal is to be a lifeguard someday!

Sareny doing bobs, and Isaac actually not too unhappy.

Sareny floating and loving it...Isaac not quite loving it...

Hurray for swimming lessons!
